Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett is threatening to keep President Obama’s name off the state’s ballot in November unless he receives confirmation from Hawaii that it has a valid birth certificate on file for him.

It would be nice if people (the MEDIA) stopped being nice to these assholes and finally called them racists. Because we all know what this has been about all along is that they hate President Obama with the fire of a thousand suns - because he is black.

Joe Soptic worked at GST Steel in Kansas City for nearly 30 years. He earned a good salary, bought a house and a car, sent his daughter to college—his family felt secure in the middle class. Joe and his coworkers made high-quality American steel, and they were proud of it.

“There was a real sense of community among the workers. We watched out for one another, we enjoyed coming to work every day, our jobs were good jobs.”

But their hard work and responsibility never fully paid off. In 1993, Mitt Romney led a group of investors who took control of GST Steel. They cut costs, began extracting big profits in the form of dividends, and heaped debt on what had been a successful company. By 1995, the company’s total debt had grown to $378 million, and there were mounting concerns that the employee pensions were being dangerously underfunded.

By 2001, the company’s debt had grown to $500 million, and GST Steel was forced into bankruptcy.

Joe lost his job and only received a portion of the pension he had earned. Luckily, Joe found a new job as a school custodian, but it paid one-third of his previous salary and his wife was no longer covered by his health insurance plan.

Mitt Romney and his partners, on the other hand, walked away with more than $12 million in profit.

“It’s upsetting what Mitt Romney and his partners did to us here in Kansas City. They came in, they bought the plant and then made as much money off it as they could. Once there wasn’t any more money they thought they could make, they closed it down and filed for bankruptcy—with no concern for the folks who worked there.”

i fucking like this. like for real, all these white motherfuckers should be forced to wear those shirts when they support and endorse racist policy and institutions and when they spout racial stereotypes and hate. let us know the white people we gotta be around and who we should avoid (though there are so many it’s hard to avoid). i support this, except they shouldn’t make money. make these shirts, pay for them all, and then go broke after making enough for the country full of white racists.

^^ Yeah, I’d prefer it if racists and other oppressors were to clearly label themselves so I could avoid interacting with them in public.

A top official at an anti-domestic violence advocacy group that has been encouraging the House GOP to roll back protections for immigrant victims in the Violence Against Women Act (or VAWA) is the founder of a controversial international matchmaking company, domestic violence workers warned lawmakers on Monday night.

The advocacy group, Stop Abusive and Violent Environments, or SAVE, has been lobbying the House of Representatives to include a “reform to curb VAWA immigration fraud” in its version of the bill. The GOP version of the bill does that by removing confidentiality protections for immigrant victims of abuse and forcing them to tell their alleged abusive husbands that they’re applying for protected immigrant status. It also removes an avenue through whih immigrant victims can achieve permanent citizenship.

An official of SAVE has a major financial interest in reducing immigrant protections: Its treasurer, Natasha Spivack, started international “marriage service” Encounters International in 1993 with the aim of arranging marriages between U.S. men and Russian women. “The Woman Of Your Dreams Just May Have A Russian Accent,” states the company’s website.

One of the Russian brides matched by Encounters International sued the firm, claiming that she was beaten by her American husband, that the company failed to properly screen candidates and neglected to tell her about a law allowing immigrants to escape abusive marriages without fear of automatic deportation. A jury decided in favor of the Russian bride and awarded her $434,000 in compensatory and punitive damages. The case was affirmed upon appeal. 

When Republicans seem to be doing things just to be stupid, figuring out what they’re up to is usually fairly simple. Just follow the money.
